On May 4, 2017, the WHL held its annual Bantam draft, this year’s crop were players born in 2002. Several SEMI Hockey developed players were chosen by WHL Clubs.

Cameron Newson a defenseman who played for the Semiahmoo Ravens Bantam A1 team, was selected by the Calgary Hitmen. Cam has played his entire minor career with SEMI Hockey.

Four other players who developed at SEMI Hockey were also selected, Cameron MacDonald, who played on the Semiahmoo Bantam A1 team in 2015-16 was chosen by The Brandon Wheat Kings. Brody Gagno, who developed at SEMI was selected by The Prince George Cougars, Daniel O’Neil was a pick of The Lethbridge Hurricanes as was Ben Mosher who played his initiation hockey at SEMI.

The development of these players is a credit to the excellent coaches that they have had at SEMI Hockey that have worked with them, first to master the fundamentals of the game and then to add the competitive drive needed to succeed, all while ensuring that they love the game.
