For Immediate Release: June 14th, 2021 – 2021-22 Non-Parent Rep Coach Announcement

SEMI Hockey is extremely proud to announce our Rep coaches for the upcoming season. As you will see many of these coaches have been with SEMI for multiple years. They have all bought into the culture that we have established and contribute to our positive environment focused on engaging with players and putting their development first. After the past challenging COVID season, all these coaches are eager to get back to adding competition back into the mix and bringing out the best in all our teams.

Check out these throwback pictures of our Coaches in their playing days!

U18 A1 – Darin Vetterl returns as the Head Coach of the top U18 team. Darin has extensive experience at all levels of hockey, including winning championships at the junior hockey level. Darin has been a skills instructor for SEMI Hockey as well for several years. Darin’s teams at SEMI have captured PCAHA banners and he has previously led a team to the BC Hockey Championship tournament.
U18 A2 – Kristjan Jefkins will return for his third season and once again lead the U18 A2 team. Kristjan was a very popular leader in his first year with SEMI Hockey. His player centered development approach was extremely successful getting the most out of the players on the team. The U18 A2 team captured the President Series banner in 2020.
U15 A1 – Chris Rengert is back with some unfinished business. In 2019-20 his U15 A1s captured the PCAHA Championship and were prepared to win a BC Hockey Championship prior to the season cancellation. Chris and his staff made the best of the 2020-21 COVID season, developing players in the practice environment and is hungry to get back to competition. Chris has been with SEMI for 6 seasons now and has led the A1 team to two PCAHA Final 4s. Chris and his staff have taken a lot of pride in developing players to their maximum potential.
U15 A2 – Jim Martin returns for a second season. Jim did an outstanding job in the COVID season focusing on player development and getting the most out of each player. You will be hard pressed to find a more passionate and dedicated coach than Jim. We are looking forward to seeing his impact in a more normal season.
U15 A3 – Calder Newson steps into the Head Coach role after a successful season as an Assistant Coach. Calder took a lot of pride in his ability to connect with the players last year, he is great at analyzing a player’s strengths and areas of improvement and working with them to maximize their ability. Calder is the former captain of the White Rock Whalers, and a recent SEMI Hockey alum.

Hayden Dance (pictured left) will be Calder’s Assistant Coach this season (Calder is on the right).

U13 A1 – Matt Erhart has provided outstanding leadership for the entire U13 division and once again will be working with the A1 team. Coming off a BC Hockey Championship in 2019, Matt led the 2020 team to a 2nd place regular season finish in PCAHA and a Final 4 spot. The focus on player development and creating 200 foot players is evident in the players that have been through Matt’s teams.
U13 A2 – Returning for his third season is Topher Plonka to lead the A2 program. Topher uses his strong skills instruction background to instill a style of play that insists on a high tempo and top skill execution. His 2020 team all bought into this and were successful in earning a spot in the BC Hockey Championship.
U11 A1 – Shane Kuss continues to enjoy his role working with the A1 team. Getting U11 hockey players to buy-in to playing an unselfish, high speed skill game is never easy, but Shane gets players firing on all cylinders. The 2020 A1’s won major tournaments and finished the season as the PCAHA Champions.
U11 A2 – Bayne Koen returns to SEMI Hockey. Bayne has an impressive hockey resume, successfully coaching at the Junior A and University level, and presently is the Head Coach of the Richmond Sockeyes Junior team. Bayne is excited about the challenge of working with younger athletes and impacting on their development at this critical stage.

Further non-parent and Parent-coach-elect will be added over the next few months.
