Shane played his Junior hockey with the local Surrey Eagles, the team that would eventually retire his jersey at the South Surrey Arena. During his time with the Eagles, Shane set league-scoring records that still hold today. In 1997, the team won a league championship, Doyle Cup championship and participated in the final of the Royal Bank Cup. Shane attended the Vancouver Canucks training camp in 2000 before heading oversees to play professionally before ultimately deciding to begin developing and coaching players.
Shane was the Head coach of the Delta Ice Hawks for 9 years, twice winning a league and provincial championship, before being named the Head Coach and General Manager of the Surrey Eagles from 2007-2010. Shane was named to coach the all-star game on 2 occasions during his time in the BCHL. Shane has been instrumental in developing young players for over 18 years through SK Hockey Development. He has also coached current NHLer’s Brent Seabrook and Milan Lucic. Shane coached at the Delta Hockey Academy from 2011 to 2018 where over his coaching tenure he focused on Elite 15 and Bantam Prep. In the 2018-19 season, Shane, along with Matt, coached the SEMI Hockey PeeWee A1 team to win the BC Hockey Championships. In the 2019-20 and again in the 2021-22 season, Shane led his U11 A1 team to first place at the U11 Tier 1 PCAHA Championships.
Matt has an extensive playing and coaching background and is excited to be joining Semiahmoo Minor Hockey as part of the player development team. Matt played his Junior Hockey with the Surrey Eagles and was part of the 1998 Royal Bank Cup National Championship team. Matt earned a Division 1 scholarship to Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. He graduated as the second leading scoring defensemen in school history while being named the Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year. Matt has been involved in coaching for the past 14 years from minor hockey to Major Junior Hockey. Matt was the Head Coach and General Manager of the Surrey Eagles from 2010 – 2013. He led the Eagles to the BCHL Championship and a berth in the National Championships and earned BCHL Coach of the Year in 2012. Matt was the Assistant Coach of the Vancouver Giants (WHL) from 2013 – 2016. Matt most recently coached at the Delta Hockey Academy from 2015 to 2018 where he focused on the Midget and Bantam Prep teams. In the 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons, Matt, along with Shane, coached the Semiahmoo U13 A1 team to win the BC Hockey Championships.
Topher received a scholarship and played college hockey at Lindenwood University, a Division 1 school located in St. Louis, MO that plays in the American College Hockey Association (ACHA) and graduated with a BA in International Business in 2007. Topher’s was the head power skating instructor with the Edge of Excellence Skating School in Kelowna. His most recent coaching experience was with BWC as the associate Head Coach of the 2018-19 Elite 15s. He has 5 years of Head Coaching experience at the Pursuit of Excellence Bantam Varsity team and the Edge of Excellence Spring PeeWee teams. Topher also has experience at the Junior level as he was the Assistant Coach/Assistant GM for 4 seasons with the Castlegar Rebels of the KIJHL and helped lead them to a conference championship in the 2010-11 season.
In Spring, 2019, Topher has been leading a group of 2008-2010 players in a weekly power skating program.
In the 2019-20 season, Topher led his U13 A2 team to a spot at the BC Hockey Championships. Due to the pandemic, unfortunately, the championships were cancelled. Most recently in the 2021-22 season, Topher's U13 A2 team was a PCAHA Tier 2 Final Four Finalist.
Magic Hockey’s main objective is building the foundations for great goaltending – technical, physical and psychological. Angelo Maggio (owner & lead instructor) has over 40 years of hockey experience and has instructed minor hockey and junior goaltenders in Italy and across Canada. He is currently SEMI Hockey’s main goaltending instructor and consultant.
