FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 26, 2022

SEMIAHMOO RAVENS HOCKEY NAMES SCOTT ACKLES AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR;     PROMOTES SUZANNE CYR TO DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION

Semiahmoo Ravens Hockey (“Semiahmoo Ravens” or the “Ravens” or the “Association”) is pleased to announce the hiring of Scott Ackles as its new Executive Director. Scott comes to the Semiahmoo Ravens with significant experience in amateur and professional sports and business. From a sports perspective, Scott’s previous experience includes serving as the Chief Executive Officer of viaSport, President of the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL, Vice President of Operations of the BC Lions, and he oversaw the 2005, 2009, and 2011 CFL Grey Cup Championships and Festivals as the events General Manager. Scott is currently a Director of both the BC and Canadian Football Halls of Fame, Co-Chair of the BC Council of Sports Halls which oversees all of the sports halls of fame in BC, and a long time resident of South Surrey.

“I am thrilled with the opportunity to be joining the Ravens and working in sports at a grassroots level in my own community. I am very much looking forward to quickly transitioning into my role and working with the Ravens’ outstanding coaches, volunteers, and all of our members to together build on the success the Ravens have achieved over the past several years.”
— Scott Ackles

The Semiahmoo Ravens are also pleased to announce that it has promoted Suzanne Cyr to Director of Administration. Suzanne has been with the Semiahmoo Ravens for eight years and is a vital contributor to the overall success of the Association. Suzanne conceptualized and launched the successful March Madness tournament, ensures all Ravens’ programming, events, and seasonal activities run smoothly and that volunteers and members are supported. Suzanne was an integral part of the Ravens management team when the Association won the Fred Page Memorial Trophy as the minor hockey association of the year from Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association in 2020. With her expanded role, Suzanne will be taking on more leadership responsibilities, working on behalf of all the members of the Association.

We are pleased to welcome Scott to the Ravens.  With his sports and business experience he will be an excellent Executive Director. We expect Scott to capitalize on the work done during Dave Newson’s 8-year tenure as Executive Director, to create a new vision for our members, and be a leader in our community who will set a path forward for our Association. We are also pleased to see Suzanne get recognized with her promotion – we value her innovative approach, leadership, and overall contributions to the Ravens organization. It is an exciting time to be a member of the Ravens with the arrival of Scott, the promotion of Suzanne, and the continued hockey excellence contributed by Matt Erhart and Shane Kuss who lead player development for the Ravens and also coach the Ravens’ U11 and U13 A1 representative teams. We are thankful that Dave Newson has agreed to continue to assist the Ravens in an advisory role for several months so that we can ensure a smooth transition for our leadership team.”
